Qi Wang - Chinese Chess
- • Genre: strategy
- • Players: 2
Xiangqi, aka "Chinese Chess", also known as "the game of elephants". Rook and knight move according to the usual rules, but the knight cannot jump over pieces. The bishop moves and hits only one square diagonally (cannot cross a river). The king and his guards can only move within the palace. Pawns move and capture in a straight line, and can also move sideways after crossing the river. Just behind the pawns is a strange figure, the cannon. It can only attack if there is another piece between it and the enemy, and it moves like a normal rook. Remember that two emperors cannot 'look' at each other, and a pass is tantamount to defeat for the side left without a move. Orientation is somewhat complicated by the fact that the pieces are marked with hieroglyphics, but this is not a hindrance to the patient.
