Capcom failed...again? Again!!
Some people looked through the code on the MvC3 disc. You know, the one you spend $60-80 for. It turns out, a significant amount of content is on the disc, but Capcom locked it out of the main game so they could charge their customers a lot of money with nickle-and-dime DLC.
It was discovered that two DLC characters, Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine, already have all their assets included on the disc, including models, moves, alternate costumes, gallery images, and endings. I heard Jill's missing some audio, but both characters are 100% fully playable. If you don't buy the Collector's Edition, they're supposedly $5 per character... even though they're on the disc itself.
They just released a lot of alternate costumes as "DLC", but it turns out that they're all on the disc as well. In fact, there's about 12 costume packs that Capcom hasn't mentioned, and they're selling them for $5 per pack of 4, so that's $15 extra for stuff that's finished and on the game disc itself.
Various modes of gameplay they're releasing as "DLC" have been uncovered with all or the majority of its data on the disc.
So, on day one, Capcom released MvC3 but locked out over $25 worth of features. Considering fans were already complaining about the lack of modes, characters, stages, and story content, the fact that the retail version is intentionally gimped to milk their customers of more money hasn't made Capcom any friends.
