Hello everyone, new person to these forums and im quite surprised to find out a lot of the great hacks I’ve seen over the years actually started here,
This is not exactly a request but more or less, a discussion about what can be done to fix the bad port of Calibur 50, I have recently played the genesis version and have watched some videos on the arcade version and the difference is miles ahead, the music is badass on the arcade version, and it had twin stick controls
The Genesis port on the other hand is completely watered down, the twin stick layout has now become two buttons that turn your body left or right or the second control scheme is just playing it like any other top down shooter without twin stick controls, the music is just awful, seriously, just terrible, the sound effects are either so quiet that I cannot hear them or they do not exist at all, it’s also missing the intro with the helicopter blowing up, but the weirdest thing is the grenades, I had been playing holding the shoot button wondering why I kept randomly spamming grenades, and then I figured it out, to throw a grenade you double tap B, and yet the game always registers when you let go of B after shooting, he will always end up throwing a grenade….
So I did put together a list of changes or fixes I’d love to see to make this a much much better port
- 6 Button Controller Support for Twin Stick Shooter Controls
- adding sound effects back in that are missing
- Maybe some sort of color hack that would make it look like the arcade game
- Somehow bringing the intro back in but I know that would require a lot of work so that’s probably out of the question
- 2 players added back in
Would love to hear other peoples ideas, in terms of the music, I have considered learning how to use software like deflemask, just trying to find the time these days
