bcrt2000, it looks like UMK3 parts of the code are the ones coming from Saturn, since there was no UMK3 on the Playstation.

As for recreating MKT with this code - I think it's possible (though I by no means a programmer), but it will take too much time and dedication to complete such big project. It's no wonder people don't want to do this. Besides, I think if someone would like to create MKT with this code, they either will need serious help from professional progarmmer or be professionals themselves.

And I am too dissappointed with the lack of reaction.

I've been looking at the code for the last day and I see no references to "Sega", "Saturn", "3DO", or "3D0" in it. It has 1300+ references to "Sony" or "PSX" in the code. Unless the developers were incredibly lazy and didn't change any of the function names or comments, this is an unreleased version of UMK3 for PSX. Remember that the Saturn also had no version of MK3 on it, and there is actually an early beta video of the Saturn version of UMK3 out there which shows stuff thats in the PSX version of MK3 (like the MK3 Sony Development Team is in the Saturn beta with a picture of them). So at some point there existed MK3 for PSX. Then at some point they started adding UMK3 elements to it (which is what is in this code base), and then during that time they must've ported it over to Saturn as well. The fact that the file structure on MK3 PSX and UMK3 Saturn matches this code also supports this theory. So either they stopped development on UMK3 for PSX or they just decided not to release it. And eventually the code was likely reused for MK Trilogy on PSX, which had to have been either ported back from Saturn or the unreleased UMK3 code was used to make it.

I just figured I'd bring attention to it because people are working on ROM hacks which is very limiting. On the Arcade the most advanced ROM hack we've seen is the Juggernaut hack for UMK3 where someone managed to insert select screen graphics for Smoke and Noob Saibot into the ROM-- but the author of this hack is unknown. And while on the Genesis Kabal has made a great hack, its again very limiting due to the hardware of the Genesis. This source code cracks everything wide open.

И в сжатии звуков.
Вообще код может быть полезен исключительно тем, кто его разберет. Только, не имея всех спрайтов, игру все равно не сделать.

It seems as though most of the data that is used by this source is of the same file structure as the PSX version of MK3 and the Saturn version of UMK3.

I'm curious as to where any of the Saturn code was found in here. I've never seen code from either before, but this looks pretty much like PSX code to me. Its also somewhere in the process of being converted from MK3 to UMK3 at this stage. Seems as though the moves/fatalities are there for UMK3 characters but a few things are missing like some sound references.

I didn't follow everything you were saying in the last few posts due to the language difference. But I'm surprised that there is no excitement over this. With this code (assuming its complete-- and I haven't seen anything that would suggest otherwise), if it could be put into a compilable state on PC (using something like SDL to replace PSX audio/video/input), then steps could be made to add the missing trilogy characters, upgrade the graphics back to arcade quality, and fix any flaws/imperfections in this port using what is known of the arcade version of UMK3.

In addition to possibly being the code base for MK3 PSX and UMK3 Saturn, I think its possible that this code base was also eventually adapted to be used for MK Trilogy PSX. Although the file structure in MK Trilogy is different, the developer whose name is all over this source (David Schwartz) is given a special thanks in the MK Trilogy credits, indicating that he didn't have a direct role in that project, but its possible they used much of his work.

This post is useless, because we discussed umk3 source already.
Can you give me the link of that thread? I'm having a hard time finding it.

edit: found it

Hey, English only speaker here. This message is directed to Kabal_MK (creator of the UMKT rom hack):

Are you aware that the source code for UMK3 was leaked a few months ago? Its available here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30454

I took a look at it, and it looks like it shares a similar code base to MK3 for PSX and UMK3 for Saturn (as the references to the file structure is very similar to the file structure in those versions). UMK3 was never released for PSX officially, so this is not a finished version-- it looks like all of the moves and fatalities are in for the UMK3 characters, but it seems like there are some missing references in other places.

Any how, I know this is not really ROM Hacking related, but I thought you should know about this if you're interested in doing something a little more than the Genesis can allow. If you got this code into a compilable state using a library like SDL for input/audio/video, you probably could easily insert arcade quality graphics and insert all of the stages/characters/music from previous MK games.
