A colourful horizontal scrolling shooter with the ability to upgrade your ship between levels. An odd mix of RPG and shmup. You walk around the town, talk to the inhabitants, buy upgrades for your plane. And then a fairly high-quality, beautiful shmup begins. The bosses and enemies are quite varied. Between stages you can go back to the level you have already completed to collect money for a new upgrade.

Not a bad shooting game. You play as a special unit - one of the best. You can create a team of your choice. Some terrorist organisation - Cobra - is doing what terrorists should do; your task is to reach the Cobra headquarters, overcoming soldiers and bosses. Your weapons will certainly help, and their power can be increased by collecting something called microchips.

The invincible team is at it again. The sinister Cobra organisation has found a mystical artefact. They used it to raise Atlantis from the ground and set up a military base there. It is necessary to reach this artefact by shooting everyone right and left. Unlike the first part, this one is non-linear - you can choose your own route. You start out with a single character, but as you progress through levels you can rescue other soldiers and play as them (and get new weapons, too). Each character has its own characteristics: one can swim, one can crawl; strengths and weaknesses: one can jump higher, another has more health. Fighters and weapons can be upgraded. You can also use the walkie-talkies you find to summon one of the three helpers we rescue in the levels. Assistants can resurrect dead team members and replenish health and ammo.

The adventures of a red gargoyle called Firebrand begin. After this part, the events of the first part took place on the Game Boy and in Ghosts 'N Goblins, of which this game is an offshoot. After receiving a mission in the city, we go to levels with a side view. The hero can cling to walls, spit fireballs and float in the air. Eventually he will be able to jump higher, float longer and even create platforms in the air! In the second half of the game, you can collect the Soulstream, a full healer that can be used once per level or life (it upgrades after that). Be prepared for a difficult game. For example, crossing the second lava river. You have to go down the 'ladder': jump to the side as high as you can, steam forward, drop down a bit, steam some more, drop down again and steam in a straight line for the last time. There are passwords, but they are rarely given. The place where you get the password serves as a respawn point if you lose all your lives. The backgrounds are nice, and the items you get are not taken away when you die. Be sure to check out the last part - Demon's Crest on SNES, it turned out to be the most successful.

Everything in this game is literally steeped in Japanese mythology. Our hero is a young samurai named Fuuma, who sets out to defeat the dragon monster and avenge his dead brothers. The game itself is an action-adventure with RPG elements. There are three modes: open world with top view, platformer with side view and pseudo-three-dimensional with a view from behind the hero. In the open world, we travel around the map; in platforming levels, we fight monsters and defeat bosses; and in three-dimensional labyrinths reminiscent of Might & Magic and Doom, we try to find a way to the next main enemy. RPG elements include weapon upgrades and a huge inventory. The main difficulty lies in the puzzles, some of which require a lot of thinking. An unremarkable game, full of variety.

The ancestor of one of Capcom's most famous series. The demons of hell are asleep, trying to figure out how to grab another earthly girl and take her for themselves. But this time they have succeeded in kidnapping the girlfriend of the brave knight Arthur. And he is happy to try: he puts on his warrior's armour over his trousers and hurries off to destroy all the impure people. However, both Arthur and the player will have to work hard. The difficulty is unrealistically high and as treacherous as our demonic enemies. There is not a single safe place - you can die at any moment, monsters appear almost everywhere. And the hero dies with only two hits. The main "surprise" awaits you after killing the final boss... Despite all this, the game is loved by gamers all over the world.

A very exciting platformer released by Konami in 1986, based on the film of the same name. The young hero Mikey must rescue his friends from captivity, first by wandering through an abandoned restaurant and then through caves. He is hindered by big mice and villains - the greedy Fratelli brothers. His enemies need to be kicked. The mice don't last long, but the brothers can only be stunned for a while. Bombs fall from the mice. Use the bombs to free your friends by placing explosives under the door. You can also find useful prizes and exit keys in the doors. As well as the enemies, there are plenty of other obstacles around, so be careful. The whole process is so entertaining that the time will fly by unnoticed.

Famous hit from Konami. You fly in the blackness of space and over enemy bases. Lots of enemies and lots of weapons to suppress them. All kinds of upgrades, for example: add another powerful shield to your ship to protect you from bullets. An interesting system of upgrades: as you take each bonus, the scale fills up by one point, and you can choose the item you want at any time to upgrade your ship and reset the scale. This system would later be used in Contra Force. A great side-scrolling shooter, a real hallmark of quality.

The sequel to the excellent side-scrolling shooter. Now you can choose your own power level, i.e. your own weapons, at the beginning of the game. Only the ship itself remains the same, but the environment and music have changed for the better. Enemies are even more varied. Quite powerful special effects for the NES have appeared. You can now choose your weapons and ship before you start the game. Some bosses, such as a man's head with his brains out, are impressive. The game is a real sign of quality from Konami. Beware: it is quite challenging.

An excellent platform game based on the film, with a very original graphic solution - the room is isometric, at an angle, which makes you feel the volume. A small creature - a mogwai called Gizmo - has to cross several different levels and defeat the evil relatives who have taken over the skyscraper. Each time the hero gets a new weapon: tomatoes, paper clips, a match or a bow and arrow. Look for secret doors in levels with a shop where you can spend your currency on something useful. The game is amazingly detailed, and the house is fun to explore. And finally, the music: one of the best soundtracks on the system, you won't hear bass like this anywhere else.

An alien race has sent a huge world to Earth, filled with dangerous life forms. Our heroine - the cyborg girl Miria - must save the planet. The game starts as a standard scrolling shooter. We fly to the space base, destroy a simple boss. Suddenly the action moves inside the base, which consists of many corridors. You have to unlock 10 rooms - basements - before the computer switches on the self-destruct. As you progress, new locations open up. The heroine can turn into a ship - then the flight stages begin again. All weapons can be upgraded and ammunition for them can be bought with chips. We have an exciting game ahead of us that is a mixture of adventure and scrolling shooter.

A shooting game that puts you in the shoes of the Cuban revolutionaries (Castro and Che). Once you have landed on the territory of the state, you will have to cross rainforests, villages, mines, cities, military bases until you reach the capital and talk to the dictator in a manly way. There are powerful extra weapons, you can drive a tank. You don't have to shoot everything that moves: there are hostages, passers-by and pets in the levels. It is nice to see that the creators of the game are not without a sense of humour. The graphics are clear and colourful, just what you need for a good game!

One of the best shooting games on the NES, with great graphics and music. A long time ago, peaceful people lived on a planet in a galaxy. But suddenly their products and things began to attack them. You, as an agent of the local secret service, have to find out who is behind it. A bunch of different weapons: lasers, homing bullets. The weapons are numbered from 1 to 5, and if you pick up weapons of the same number often, they become more powerful. You can change the speed of your ship by pressing Select. The game has four difficulty modes: from a nice thrill ride (in the first and second modes) to a hot bath and hell (in the third and fourth modes).

A unique game from Capcom dedicated to the Wild West. We play as a tireless shooter, a "bounty hunter" who kills criminals for a reward. The more dangerous the boss, the more money we get for killing him. All levels are viewed from above. To find the boss, you have to find his picture, otherwise you go round in circles. You can buy equipment from friendly townspeople, as well as new weapons and ammo for them. There is an option to ride a horse, which will make your hero more resilient. When playing, you should react to danger in time, because bandits come from everywhere and it is very easy to run into them.

The game is based on the famous film about Peter Pan and Captain Hook, starring Robin Williams. With your help, the grown-up Peter has to pass through different levels, avoiding traps and enemies (Hook's helpers). The game has beautiful graphics, one of the best in 8-bit. To interact with the fairy, find the lamp (looks like a thimble). To bounce on the magic dust, find the ball. You have to get very close to an enemy to hit them successfully, but this weakness is hardly noticeable as you can jump over every enemy in the level. Underwater you can replenish your air supply from the tanks on the cave ceilings.

We play as an ice axe climber whose task is to climb to the top of a mountain and then catch a flying bird with his paws. But this seemingly simple task is hindered by various obstacles: seals, birds, polar bears, icicles... And to climb up one level (there are quite a few on the mountain), we'll have to use inhuman patience to make a hole in the ceiling with an ice axe (just don't try this at home - your neighbours will misunderstand you). On the way up, there is a bonus level which, to be honest, is more difficult than the climb you made earlier. It's really fun to play with two people, especially for the speed.

Fun-filled hockey. Like other Technos sports, this is a no-holds-barred hockey game with cool characters and killer graphics. It is maddeningly fun to play, especially when you see the facial expressions that will make you fall under the table with laughter. Unusual skills and super moves add to the fun. The game is in Japanese.

Probably one of the highest quality RPG quests on the NES. Great graphics and soundtrack. Not bad story, supported by various NPCs. The quest part of the game still outweighs the RPG component. Instead of pumping your character, you are given various tasks: go somewhere, bring something back. Some people may be disappointed by this. Although the game is quite interesting and very difficult. You will die many times: from worms, from pits, from orcs... So if you don't like complexity, if you don't want to think about every step you take, don't bother with this game. The rest of you are welcome.

There are not many action games on the NES where you have to drive a tank. This makes it all the more pleasing to see a quality Iron Tank game. Just like in Guerilla Wars and Jackal, we move through the levels from a top view, shooting at enemy soldiers and vehicles. The pause menu is amazing, with lots of items and weapons that can be changed at any time during the game. Your tank is perfectly controlled, it is not bulky. What is also nice is that the level changes are smooth, without dimming the screen, without allowing the player to relax and without stopping the action. The difficulty level is reasonable, but it doesn't go too far. A great product from SNK.

An excellent 1988 action game from Konami that combines good graphics, sound and interesting gameplay. A jeep (one or two if we play for two), driven by a group of 2 special forces, goes to eliminate enemies and rescue hostages. The hostages have to be rescued by destroying buildings. After putting the rescued into the car, we have to get to the place where the helicopter has been sent and load the people into it. Our jeep is armed with a machine gun (which only shoots forward) and grenades (which fly in all directions), with the help of some hostages upgraded to missiles. If you are picked up with hostages on board, you will lose some of them. The game is particularly addictive in 2-player mode.
