Blaster Master
- • Genre: action-adventure
- • Players: 1
The company SUNSOFT has created many first-class games, and Blaster Master is one of the most famous. It is a combination of side-scrolling platformer and top-down shooter, also in an open world. We control a combat rover called "SOPHIA Nora", as well as a human pilot who can leave the rover at any time and fight on his own. In side-view locations, we mainly travel in the rover, and to enter bunkers where you can only see from above, you need to be a pilot. In the bunkers, we play from a top view, and our human character is larger. In the main rooms we fight bosses, and when we defeat them we get upgrades for our tank. The upgrades will give the Rover new abilities that will allow it to enter levels that were previously inaccessible. The pilot's weapon can be pumped, which is sometimes necessary to defeat bosses. The game's graphics and music are excellent. Each composition accurately emphasises the atmosphere of a particular location. Blaster Master is one of the jewels of the NES.

Asterix
- • Genre: platformer
- • Players: 1
A colourful and entertaining game through the adventures of the resourceful Gaul Asterix. As we know from comics and cartoons, the warring Romans are unable to take the Gauls' village because they drink a special drink that gives them great strength. But Caesar's warriors are no strangers to cunning. They manage to trap Asterix's friend, the simple-minded Obelix. Our hero has no choice but to rescue his friend. All you have to do is run around and hit the enemy Romans. Each blow is accompanied by an inscription, just like in the comics. Along the way, you have to collect stars that give you life. The levels also contain bottles of the drink that gives you strength. This is a very effective, if short-lived, means of fighting enemies. If you try hard, you can find the entrance to the bonus stages. Graphically, the game is very nice, as a good platformer should be. The design of the stages is also good.

RoboCop
- • Genre: run'n'gun
- • Players: 1
The metal hero's first appearance on the NES. The game was made by Sakata SAS, based on the film of the same name, and is a port of the arcade version. It looks modest both graphically and functionally: Robocop moves slowly, can't jump and easily runs into enemy attacks. But there is a certain charm to the game. Moreover, the gameplay is interesting - Robocop can block enemy blows (select key), which is very useful in the absence of jumping. Our hero can't grab a gun straight away, so you'll have to work with a strong Kevlar fist.

Gun.Smoke
- • Genre: shoot'em up
- • Players: 1
A unique game from Capcom dedicated to the Wild West. We play as a tireless shooter, a "bounty hunter" who kills criminals for a reward. The more dangerous the boss, the more money we get for killing him. All levels are viewed from above. To find the boss, you have to find his picture, otherwise you go round in circles. You can buy equipment from friendly townspeople, as well as new weapons and ammo for them. There is an option to ride a horse, which will make your hero more resilient. When playing, you should react to danger in time, because bandits come from everywhere and it is very easy to run into them.

Alien 3
- • Genre: action
- • Players: 1
A game based on the movie Alien 3. Ellen Ripley finds herself on the prison planet Fury 161 after a spaceship crash. Alien-face (the cause of the crash) attacks the prisoners and the creatures hatch from them. It is up to Ripley to find all the infected humans in the corridors of the prison and neutralise them. Each level is a maze of corridors and narrow pipes. Time is limited: if you don't find all the people or don't get out of the room, you lose. The strangers wandering around are not particularly dangerous, but the bosses at the end of every second level are a challenge. Ripley has several types of weapons, ammunition is limited, and the guns must be used carefully - the barrel overheats from frequent use. An atmospheric and exciting action game.

Rush'n Attack
- • Genre: action
- • Players: 2 (coop)
- • Year of release: 1987
- • Developer: Konami Industry Co. Ltd.
A port of the arcade game of the same name, also known as Green Beret. In Rush'n Attack, we have to make our way through a cohort of enemy soldiers with varying degrees of weaponry in enemy territory. Along the way there will be watchtowers, dogs, gyrocopters and mines under our feet. Weapons include an army knife. Occasionally you can pick up trophies - a bazooka, a pistol and a grenade. You don't have to run along the road, you can jump higher and move around on the roofs of hangars, sheds and other buildings. The enemy infantry can be easily attacked with a knife, but it will be a bit more difficult with shooters and you will have to run away from snipers from watchtowers. Graphics for 1987 are on the highest level, music is not pumped up either. Jumping by pressing 'up' is unusual at first, but you get used to it after a while. There is a two-player mode.

Kirby's Adventure
- • Genre: platformer
- • Players: 1
A beloved character from Nintendo games made his way to the NES. A very big, beautiful and hugely entertaining game about Kirby - a weapon of mass destruction cleverly disguised as a pretty ball. Judge for yourself: Kirby can swallow enemies whole, spit them out as projectiles, swallow air and exhale it into the enemy, and even take on other people's abilities (press the "down" button) - not every hero can do all these things! When inflated, the hero can fly (press "up"). Levels can fascinate any player. There is a save system.

Snake Rattle n Roll
- • Genre: platformer
- • Players: 2 (coop)
The game is extraordinary in every sense of the word. You control a snake that has to climb to the top of a mountain and fight a giant leg that is preventing you from leaving the planet. The plot is impressive, isn't it? The levels are isometric, which means you have to move in three directions, not two. From a technical point of view, the game is to be praised: graphics and level design are very well done. To get through the levels, the snake has to eat balls, from which it grows a long tail, and with its weight it can open the passage to the next level. The snake catches the balls with its tongue. The tongue can be lengthened by picking up upgrades. You can play as two players - Rattle's snake and Roll's snake. In the first levels, it is worth getting used to the controls, as the game is not very complex.

Shadow of the Ninja
- • Genre: action
- • Players: 2 (coop)
- • Year of release: 1990
- • Developer: Natsume Co., Ltd.
Hurricane Arcade. It has everything you need for a hit. We play as a ninja assassin whose mission is to kill the despot emperor. The graphics are good and the sound is not bad either. The music is great, as in many other Natsume games. The missions can be completed in one go, but they are not easy. There are two main weapons: a short, fast sword and a long, slower chain. You can choose which one suits you better. You can also throw shurikens and bombs, but both run out. The game was released in Japan as Kage, and in Europe as Blue Shadow.

Power Blade
- • Genre: action
- • Players: 1
A futuristic action game that puts you in the shoes of Special Agent Nova. The pumped-up Schwarzenegger-esque hero has to disarm a super-powerful computer that has rebelled against its creators. To get to the aggressive machine, Nova has to meet six agents on 6 levels and get a key from each of them. After using the key and entering the door, fight the boss. Nova's main weapon is, strangely enough, a boomerang. It can be thrown upwards as well as forwards. You can increase the boomerang's range by picking up stars along the way. If you try hard enough, you can find a suit of armour that will protect you from any three enemy attacks. The interesting gameplay alone makes this a worthy project. Beautiful and varied stages only add to this.

KickMaster
- • Genre: platformer
- • Players: 1
A fascinating adventure game with the possibility to pump up your character. The story takes place in a fairy-tale kingdom, where you will have to fight monsters - servants of the evil wizard Belzeda. We play as Tonolan - a master of martial arts, the last surviving knight of the royal guard. Tonolan is a master of kicking. It is with his legs that we will hit enemies throughout the game. The hero will also find various spells that require magical energy. Tonolan can boost himself up by gaining experience points from special prizes. As the character's level increases, so do his characteristics, but if you lose all your lives, the experience points you gained will disappear. The graphics in the game are nice. Be careful: three prizes fly out of every enemy you kill, so whatever you manage to pick up is yours.

Metroid
- • Genre: action-adventure
- • Players: 1
One of the pioneers of the console action-adventure genre. The game throws you into a space base and that's it - you're on your own, just like in real life. There are no texts, no hints, nothing - you have to explore the space pirates' abode at your own risk. By exploring the pirate base, the heroine will be able to gather reinforcements and gain access to previously inaccessible areas. Rockets found along the way can be used to open red doors and fight bosses. The graphics are not bad, considering that the game was made in 1986. There are some interesting bosses, such as Ridley the pterodactyl. The music creates the right atmosphere. A fascinating and peculiar game. The site presents and extensive modification on this part, called Metroid - Rogue Dawn. In fact, it is a separate part of the series (prehistory), with its own story, level structure, graphical and musical improvements.

Lion King, The (Super Game)
- • Genre: platformer
- • Players: 1
Ported by "Super Game" from the 16-bit console The Lion King. Levels are half as many as in the original, that is exactly five. Three levels play for a lion cub, the last two - for an adult lion. Running away from the mad herd here will not have to (that graphical and technical beauty that on Sega and SNES, NES would still not pull), but to slap hyenas and throw off the rock mean uncle of the hero - Scar, the opportunity is there. The trouble with all pirate ports - control - not too convenient. But nevertheless, Simba is fun and enjoyable to play. One of the most successful ports on NES, not too impoverishing the original game.

Great game, one of the best sports simulators on the console. The game is fun and exciting. We can control not only the strikers but also the goalkeeper. At the end of each half, you can't help but be amazed at the crazy score on the scoreboard. Sometimes there are as many as 15 pucks. The arcade features are fun. If you want, you can beat up any player on the pitch.

Rockin' Kats
- • Genre: platformer
- • Players: 1
A cartoon platformer where you play as Willie the cat, who has to save his friend Jill from a gang of treacherous dogs. The leader of the gang keeps kidnapping Jill for some reason, and the cat goes to her rescue. You can't fight these dogs with your claws, so the hero uses an ingenious device - a mechanical boxing glove on hinges. The glove will help you in any situation. It can not only hit the enemy, but also by hitting the ground, jump higher, push off the walls, cling to the top and unfurl to fly far ahead. You can also grab and throw various objects. You can start with any of the 4 levels, and when you complete them all, the fifth and final level will be available. Between levels you can go to the shop to buy upgrades and to the bonus room to try and win money in the prize mini-game.

Top Gun
- • Genre: simulation
- • Players: 1
Flight simulator. A first-person view from the cockpit of an aeroplane. You have to fly, follow the dispatcher's commands and shoot down enemies in time. Ammunition is infinite, but not powerful enough; missiles (3 types) are more powerful, but there are not many of them. At the end of each level there is a bonus mission to land on the deck of an aircraft carrier. If you follow the instructions exactly, you will be able to land on the ship; if not, the plane will crash into the sea. Who of us didn't ooh and aah when we were kids when we saw this picture? Tip: When the dispatcher says "speed up" or "speed down", press the appropriate buttons on the gamepad; if it says "up, up" - press the joystick down (not up!), if it says "down, down" - press up (not down!).

Legendary game, one of the first known Nintendo games in general and Mario's debut in particular. True, the name "Mario" was given to him later. Here our favourite is called 'Jumpman' and works not as a plumber but as a carpenter. Offended by him, the monkey Danky Kong kidnaps a girl called Paulina, and Mario\Jumpman has to traverse many dangerous places to rescue the girl. But the ape is no sloucher, always ready to drop something heavy on you. Like almost all games of the time, Danky Kong has no ending and the levels repeat endlessly.

Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima IV
- • Genre: action-adventure
- • Players: 1
The fourth part of Takahashi's (Higgins) adventures, released only in Japan, suddenly appears not as an adventure game (like the previous three), but as an adventure game. Now you can explore a huge island at your leisure, earning prizes in mini-games and changing the weapons in your inventory. As in Metroid, you must acquire a new ability to move on to the next location. You can also upgrade your hero's health, so he won't die on the first hit. And with all the items in your inventory, it will be much easier to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend.

Vice: Project Doom
- • Genre: action
- • Players: 1
- • Year of release: 1991
- • Developer: Aicom Corporation
Spy action game. The hero is armed with an electric whip, a pistol and grenades. Enemies come from all sides, like stray dogs on a man with a bundle of sausages behind his back. Most of the levels are in the form of a Ninja Ryukenden-style combat adventure game. They are watered down by stages on a fighting vehicle and an overhead shooting gallery. The races are well done, but the shooting gallery is cheesy. The story interludes are done in a cinematic style. The bosses are interesting and require tactics. It's true that towards the end of the game, after you've lost to the boss, you'll have to stomp a large part of the level again. The backgrounds are nice.

Arkanoid
- • Genre: arkanoid
- • Players: 2 (take turns)
- • Year of release: 1986
- • Developer: Taito Corporation
A once popular game that came from the arcade and spawned a bunch of clones. The rules are extremely simple: controlling the platform, you need to push the ball ricocheting off the walls, knocking down the bricks above one by one and preventing the ball from falling down. Enemies can fall out of the bricks, or, on the contrary, prizes. Interestingly, the game is not infinite. 32 regular levels, on the final 33rd - the main boss, a huge head of a statue-moai named DOH. There was even a special controller for the NES version. If you haven't played Arkanoid yet, you should definitely familiarize yourself with it.
